Shown overnight at the Good Design Australia awards, the NX will include Australian firsts of a wireless charging tray for compatible smartphones and other portable devices.  Other firsts for Australia include, touch sensitive interior lighting, power adjustment for rear seats, and the first application of a hybrid drivetrain for a compact luxury SUV in Australia.

Lexus firsts include the debut of a third generation Lexus Remote Touch system that mirrors the operability of a smartphone and features force feedback.

Aiding safety will be the availability of an all-new 360 degree Panoramic View Monitor. Available on selected models, the Lexus Panoramic View Monitor offers an uninterrupted view of the vehicle surrounds when called upon and features four high definition cameras.

In keeping with Lexus’ entire Australian range, reverse camera will be standard across all models, while blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert will be offered across selected NX 300h models.

Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said that the NX will bring with it a host of new technology when it launches late this year. “NX will bring with it a vast array of new and innovative features, suited perfectly to an active, urban lifestyle – and many of these features are a first for Australia,” Mr Hanley said.

“The NX will bring to this segment a unique blend of design, dynamics, specification and service – but importantly greater consumer choice.

“With NX 300h and 200t customers will be able to choose from a broad range of drivetrains and models, all paired to the greatest array of interior and exterior combinations to grace a Lexus production vehicle,” Mr Hanley said.

The Good Design Australia Awards are Australia’s longest standing national design award and promotion program.

With more than 50 years of design benchmarking, Good Design Australia has focused on raising the standard and profile of design and innovation in Australia and internationally.
