Lexus’ new RC 200t will launch in Australia in December 2015

Lexus has announced the introduction of the RC 200t, the turbocharged variant of the Japanese luxury marque’s sports coupe. RC 200t will become a new entry point in the RC line, joining the 3.5-litre V6-powered RC 350 and 5.0-litre V8-powered halo model RC F.

The new variant will be the fourth Lexus to feature Lexus’ first turbo petrol engine after the NX 200t compact crossover SUV, RX 200t midsize SUV and IS 200t sports sedan.

Lexus Australia chief executive Sean Hanley said RC 200t represented a dynamic option for sports coupe buyers.

“RC 200t provides customers with an ideal introduction to the world of the outstanding, highly regarded RC coupe,” Mr Hanley said.

“The new Lexus turbo engine brings great performance and responsiveness that will combine to provide a thrilling drive in the RC 200t.”

Lexus’ advanced 2.0-litre turbocharged engine weighs just 160 kilograms and features an array of efficiency and performance measures. These include a twin-scroll turbocharger, water-cooled cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold and advanced VVTi-W (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide).

It will produce 180kW and 350Nm in RC 200t and send its power to the rear wheels via an intelligent eight-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission. RC 200t will arrive in Australia in December, with local specification and pricing details to be revealed closer to launch.
