Lexus will unveil RC Coupe F Sport at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show

Lexus will unveil the F Sport variant of its RC Coupe at the 2014 Geneva International Motor Show.

First revealed at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, the RC is a standalone model rather than a two-door derivative of a sedan. Based on the GS platform, it differs in all dimensions from the GS and IS model lines.  The F Sport variant of the RC 350 offers visual and dynamic upgrades over the standard model.

Visual upgrades include unique interior and exterior styling package, including body kit, wheels, interior instruments, seating and other touches. The F Sport’s dynamic upgrades take the form of exclusively tuned front and rear suspension hardware, the availability of Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and the Lexus Dynamic Handling (LDH) system (incorporating dynamic rear steering), providing drivers with an even more rewarding and engaging driving experience.

Readily identified by a model-specific ‘F’ mesh grille design, the front of F Sport models features a further evolution of the Lexus spindle grille.  The F Sport model range combines model-specific badging with a unique 19″ F Sport alloy wheel design featuring a machine-finished outer 10-spoke layer offset over an inner 10-spoke layer finished in a dark metallic paint.

Three exterior colours – White Nova, orange and Flame Blue. The RC F Sport also adopts an LFA-style instrument cluster with moveable centre ring, and an F Sport steering wheel and premium shift knob. The F Sport-exclusive interior design is completed by Wedge Metal ornamentation and an F Sport-exclusive Dark Rose interior colour.

Lexus Engineers have carefully tuned the RC F Sport to offer greater dynamic performance. Kicking off the dynamic upgrades for the F Sport model is the adoption of Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS).

Teamed to drive mode select, AVS responds to driver inputs, vehicle body motion and road surface conditions to automatically and independently adjust the performance of the suspension at all four corners to maximise dynamic performance.

When the vehicle’s Sport+ drive mode is selected, AVS is set to SPORT and allows the driver to feel improved body control and precise responses to steering input via a firmer suspension setting and revised power steering assistance.

The suspension enhancements of the RC 350 F Sport are complemented by the four-wheel steering benefits of the LDH system. This leading-edge technology offers the integration of Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS), Electric Power Steering and Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS).

The system calculates the optimum angle for all four wheels by monitoring vehicle speed, steering direction and driver inputs. Using VGRS in the front and DRS in the rear, the system can independently manage both front and rear wheel steering angles to help improve turn-in response, rear grip, vehicle control and overall agility when cornering.

The Lexus unique Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system coordinates LDH, the Anti-lock Braking System, Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Control and Adaptive Variable Suspension. The LDH system monitors vehicle speed and yaw rate, steering angle and speed, and lateral G to calculate the required rear wheel steering input up to a maximum rear wheel angle of 2.0 degrees.

The front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions at lower speeds to assist manoeuvrability and in the same direction at higher speeds to provide stability. The Lexus Dynamic Handling system coordinates all of the above and optimises dynamic and safety systems to suit vehicle speed and driving style.

Lexus RC F GT3 concept unveiled for 2014 Geneva Motor Show

Lexus will debut a racing version of its RC F performance coupe at the 2014 Geneva International Motor Show.

Lexus RC F GT3 concept

The RC F GT3 concept has been developed to meet GT3 international racing standards. Weighing just 1,250 kg, the RC F GT3 features a modified version of the RC F’s V8 engine, producing a maximum power output approaching 400 kilowatts.

Lexus will supply GT3-compliant vehicles to racing teams starting in 2015, with vehicle testing commencing this year. GT3-compliant vehicles are an attractive option for race events globally and are eligible for numerous events, including the 24 Hours of Nürburgring endurance race in Germany and the Super Taikyu Endurance and Super GT series in Japan.

Lexus Unveils New RC F @ Detroit

Lexus has revealed the high performance version of its new RC coupe at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Lexus RC F is the most powerful Lexus V8 yet with engine power well above 330kW and more than 520Nm of torque.

Lexus RC F

RC F will make world-first use of a Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) in a front engine rear-drive car to guarantee extraordinary levels of handling and performance. Power will be transfer through a redeveloped eight-speed transmission with Sports Direct Shift (SPDS).

Lexus RC F

The most powerful Lexus V8 F model ever built will use an all-new 5.0-litre 32-valve engine with cylinder heads and moving parts that provide increased maximum power at higher engine revolutions than has previously been possible.

For the first time in a Lexus performance engine, the RC F uses the Atkinson cycle at cruising speeds for enhanced fuel economy and then it switches to the Otto cycle at higher revolutions to develop impressive performance levels. Driver engagement has been made possible by purpose-designed sound and power delivery sensations.

Lexus RC F

A uniquely tuned eight-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission improves linear response to accelerator-pedal operation, which lets the driver better feel the torque and power as it is applied and a system of regulating induction and exhaust sound helps create a deep tone up to 3000rpm, and a higher-pitched tone as revolutions rise freely above 6000rpm.

The newly calibrated Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management System (VDIM) adds a vertical G-sensor to provide greater vehicle stability.

Lexus RC F

The wing is a highlight of RC F’s aerodynamic grip and stability package which also includes careful tuning of the flat underbody, the ducts at the rear of the front bumper and front fenders, and strategic placement of aero stabilising fins.

The foundation for the vehicle’s mechanical grip is the high rigidity body which has large cross-section rocker panels and a highly rigid front lower brace, as well as using specialised Lexus manufacturing techniques, including body adhesives, laser-screw welding and multi-spot welding. Grip is further enhanced through use of a wider tyre and wheel assembly.

Lexus RC F

RC F has coil-spring independent suspension front and rear, with monotube gas dampers and ball-jointed stabiliser bars. Unsprung weight is enhanced by the adoption of three grades of new 19-inch diameter forged aluminium wheels which minimise tyre/wheel assembly mass and maximise rigidity.
