About 2 weeks ago, Volkswagen Malaysia officially launched the Polo Sedan 1.6.  This week at KLIMS 2013 (Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show), Volkswagen have yet again surprised us by unveiling the new Polo 1.6 Hatchback. The new Polo 1.6 hatchback will be also locally assembled being the third Volkswagen model that’s locally assembled alongside the new Polo Sedan and Passat.

The Polo 1.6 Hatchback is identical to the current Polo TSi 1.2. The major differences is obviously the engine and the gearbox. The new Polo 1.6 is powered by the same engine as the Polo Sedan – the 1.6 litre MPI engine with 105PS at 5,250rpm and 153Nm at 3,800 rpm. Both the Polo 1.6 and the Polo Sedan also feature the same gearbox – a six speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic mode.

The Polo 1.6 does 0-100km/h in just 11.1 seconds, while the car is able to go up to 184km/h top speed. Fuel consumption is 6.3L/100km which is very fuel efficient compared to other car models at its range.

On the back of the car, the Polo 1.6 has the same ‘Volkswagen’ badge as the new Polo Sedan. On the wheels, Volkswagen have packed in a 15-inch ‘Riverside’ alloy rims with 185/60 R15 tyres.

The interior design is the same as the Polo Sedan. Polo 1.6 is also fitted with the same RCD 320 radio with USB, SD card, iPod, AUX-in, and Bluetooth capabilities with four speakers. The new hatch also fits with the Climatronic automatic air conditioning system. Likewise, everything else inside the car comes standard and seems identical to the Polo Sedan.

Pricing and launch details are not confirmed yet, but it’s definitely coming in 2014. Since the Polo Sedan is priced at RM85,888 , we are guessing that the Polo 1.6 might come in a slightly higher price at RM87k to RM89k.

We will keep you posted once we have the latest pricing and launch details. Stay Tuned!
