Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (991-series) Launched in Malaysia

Without us aware on first day of March 2013 (technically “uninvited”), the official importer of Porsche vehicles in Malaysia – Sime Darby Auto Performance launched the new 911 Carrera 4S on March 1st, 2013 at Sepang International Circuit. As the latest variant of the 911, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S features enhanced driving dynamics, agility and stability, making it an ideal sports car for maintaining control in severe terrain and weather conditions.

Arnt Bayer, Chief Executive Officer of SDAP said at the launch, “We are pleased to present the new 911 Carrera 4 models to you today. With its sleek contours, visual panache and modern silhouette that is unmistakeably Porsche, the new 911 Carrera 4S still continues to set new standards for handling performance and driving pleasure. In true Porsche style, it exudes confidence and a good measure of composed self-assurance, a calm but undeniable power and authority.”

The new 911 Carrera 4S which is offered in Malaysia market is available with the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) as standard. The 911 Carrera 4S has a 3.8-litre rear-mounted boxer engine that produces 400 hp (294 kW) that enables acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 299 km/h, with a suitable equipment configuration.

The wheel arches of the rear axle for the new Carrera 4/4S are more flared than Carrera 2/2S, each extending an additional 22 mm to the sides, while the rear wheels are each 10 millimetres wider. This increases the track width of the 911 Carrera 4S by 36 mm. The impressive view at the rear is underscored by the exclusive taillight panel with parking light and rear light functionality. The light panel runs directly beneath the spoiler edge, and it visually combines the two rear lights. For one, this emphasises the powerful termination of the vehicle, while also giving the all-wheel drive models a unique and clearly differentiated night design.

The new all-wheel drive 911 cars are equipped with the latest generation of Porsche Traction Management (PTM). It is based on the system of the 911 Turbo, Type 997 and was especially optimised in its control strategy with a special focus on improving efficiency and fuel economy. The system recognises a fuel-efficient style of driving based on the driving situation and reduces the transfer of drive torque to the front axle.

PTM combines typical Porsche driving fun of a rear engine and rear-wheel drive with even greater driving stability, traction and agile handling. In every driving situation, PTM accomplishes this by directing the optimal share of engine torque to the front wheels via a multiplate clutch. This distribution can be seen by the driver on the display instrument panel, only available in the 911 Carrera 4 models. With a maximum switching time of 100 milli-seconds, PTM is quicker than the engine’s reaction to load change and faster than the driver can perceive. In practical terms, this means a high level of agility on narrow country roads, excellent traction even on slippery surfaces and top-notch driving safety even during extreme driving manoeuvres in the high speed range. These properties make Porsche Traction Management one of the highest performance and yet lightest all-wheel drive systems on the market.

The base price of the new 911 Carrera 4S starts from RM 970,000 in Peninsular Malaysia, which includes 4-year factory warranty and a 4-year complimentary service maintenance package. The price stated includes all applicable duties and excludes registration fee, road tax and insurance.
