In 2010, Proton went on to secure second place in the APRC Manufacturer’s Championship with its best finish being a 1-2 victory in the APRC category at the China Rally. Proton has also won the APRC title 3 times in 2001, 2002 and 2004.

Beyond conventional marketing, motorsports provides car manufacturers like Proton what can be defined as emotional leverage; first attracting fans, enticing them to learn more of the brand and product, establishing brand following, and hopefully translating into ownership desire and later brand loyalty, said Proton Holdings Berhad Group Managing Director Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir.

This is extremely important for a relatively small global player like Proton as it allows us to make greater inroads into markets in which we are not yet present or are currently confined to a small representation, he added.

Besides, the 2011 APRC season will also see the entry of several Group N Satria Neo 1600cc rally cars. The cars have been jointly-developed by Proton and renowned Japanese tuner Cusco, and are being sold to competitors in Japan taking part in both the APRC and Japanese Junior Rally Championship.

We strongly agreed on Proton participation on APRC does enable Proton to benefit from enormous exposure. Last but not least, we wish Proton best of luck in the race with great results.

There is one hidden treasure from Proton which on display at KLIMS 2010. Regrettably, we did not post it on time although we were there on Day 1.

Introducing the Proton Satria Neo R3 Concept

5146 630xfloat= img 6324 Proton Satria Neo R3 Concept at KLIMS 2010

The engine of this concept car is tweaked with 200hp and 250Nm of torque based on 1.6L Campro CPS engine with turbo-charger, R3 forged pistons, steel conrod, performance camshafts, custom cylinder heads, performance air filter, performance exhaust system and ECU. This powerplant is mated with a close ratio manual transmission. Based on the dyno result, this car is capable to churn 170hp and 200Nm on wheel.

This Proton Satria Neo R3 Concept uses AP Racing Braking System which comes with 4-pot callipers on the front. Similar to the Limited Edition of Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing, the car is also fitted with Ohlins suspension kit. You will also find a bolt on 4-point half roll cage inside the car. The car wears a set of 195/50 R 15 Bridgestone Potenza RE55S semi slicks tyres on 15 inch wheels. Obviously, this car is track ready with its entire package.
