The new-generation seven-seat Kluger, launched in March, features a stylish design with more emotional appeal while engineers have delivered a more engaging drive and liberated more interior space.

So far this year, Camry Hybrid is the country’s top-selling hybrid car, the 86 heads the sports-car market, LandCruiser 200 is dominant in its segment and Prado sales are up more than eight per cent.

Prius v is the third member of the expanded Prius family that also includes the third-generation Prius hatch and the Prius c city car.

Carsales editor-in-chief Mike Sinclair said the recommended chanel espadrilles have been judged on their performance, refinement, handling, suitability for purpose and value for money.

He said resale value, reliability and factors such as warranty and the availability of benefits such as capped-price servicing were also considered.

“The cars we choose are the best in their respective segments and represent great buying choices for new car shoppers,” Mr Sinclair said.

Toyota sells more vehicles in Australia than any other brand and is currently leading the new-vehicle market for the 12th consecutive year.

New Toyota vehicles are covered by Toyota Service Advantage, the company’s capped-price servicing plan*.

RECOMMENDED TOYOTA VEHICLES:
Family cars >$30K: Toyota Kluger
Performance cars <$100K: Toyota 86
Offroad 4x4s: Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series, Toyota LandCruiser Prado

Audi introducing 48 volts electrical system for better power and efficiency

Audi is to upgrade part of its vehicle electrical system from twelve to 48 volts. The move represents another technical building block for facilitating the integration of new automotive technologies while increasing the power and efficiency of its cars.

IMG_4252.JPG

“We are using the full bandwidth of electrification in our drive principles strategy. Running part of the vehicle electrical system at 48 volts plays a central role in this,” commented Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at Audi. “It enables us to make more energy available. That paves the way for new technologies with which we can make our cars more sporty, more efficient and more convenient to use.”

Audi recently showcased the scope of the 48‑volt electrical system with the technology demonstrators Audi A6 TDI concept and RS 5 TDI concept. Both models are fitted with an electrically powered compressor. This operates independently of the engine load and therefore fundamentally improves the acceleration performance. 48‑volt technology is moreover ideal for realizing convenience systems for dynamic chassis control. Audi will shortly be unveiling a variety of applications in this field.

The current state of the art technology has taken 12‑volt electrical systems to their very limits. Especially at low temperatures, all the various static‑load consumers can account for the entire power generated by the alternator, which can deliver up to three kilowatts. The battery power is no longer capable of meeting the demands of new, dynamic‑load consumers such as high‑performance electric compressors.

The solution is a second subsidiary electrical system running at 48 volts, to complement the 12‑volt power supply. The higher voltage means smaller cable cross-sections are needed; this translates into lighter cable harnesses with lower power dissipation. The 48‑volt electrical system features new storage technologies and delivers much more power than the 12‑volt system with lead batteries. That makes it an important element of the Audi strategy of electrifying various stages of the drivetrain. The Group’s developers have already come up with a scalable platform concept, including a version that incorporates the electrically powered compressor.

In currently the highest development version, a compact lithium‑ion battery supplies 48 volts as the energy source during engine‑off phases; a DC/DC converter integrates the 12‑volt electrical system. The lithium‑ion battery operates in conjunction with a new, efficiency-optimized alternator that qualifies the drivetrain as a mild hybrid. Within this concept there are diverse ways of starting, controlling and deactivating the combustion engine as needed. The powerful alternator achieves an energy recovery output of ten kilowatts, far more than is possible at present. That adds up to a saving of up to ten grams of CO2 per kilometer (16.1 g/mi), equivalent to around 0.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (62.1 miles).

12-year old wins a brand new XC60 with hole-in-one

At the recent 40th RSGC Ladies Amateur Open Championship, held at the Royal Selangor Golf Club, Natasha Oon, a 12-year old golfer, became the envy of everyone when she won a brand new Volvo XC60 T5 worth RM288,888 by notching a hole-in-one on the first day of the Championship!

A delighted Oon quipped, “I didn’t realise that I scored a hole-in-one. Honestly, I was just trying to do my best (in the Championship).”

What happened next was nothing short of adorable – Oon brought her mother, Yenni Hasnawi, to the XC60 T5 on display and said, “this is the car that you will use to drive me to school every day.”

Oon’s hole-in-one is a remarkable feat that was only achieved at this particular Championship, a good 15 years ago.

The hole-in-one prize was sponsored by Volvo Car Malaysia’s authorised dealer, Federal Auto Cars.

The XC60 T5 is powered by the 4-cylinder Drive-E engine which produces 245hp at 5,500rpm and a maximum torque 350Nm at 1,500-4,800rpm. Whilst the engine offers greater output than the previous generation, it still retains class-leading fuel consumption figures for petrol engines in the segment and improved CO2 emissions at a 157g/km.

Available from RM288,888, the XC60 T5 showcases a new hood shape and chrome bar grille which emphasizes the car’s width, together with prominent horizontal lines that will visually connect the car to the road. The tailpipes are now integrated with the diffuser and act as a visual.
