After clinching the Asian Auto Allianz Auto “Best Local Assembled SUV” award earlier this year, the Mitsubishi ASX recently added two more titles to its collection of awards – from Autocar ASEAN and Cars, Bikes & Trucks, both publications choosing the ASX as a winner under their respective SUV categories.

Published monthly, Autocar ASEAN is one of the most prestigious motoring magazines in Malaysia. In awarding the title of Best Small/Midsize SUV to the ASX, the magazine commented that Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia’s decision to locally assemble the ASX in Malaysia has brought a new wave of attention to the compact SUV that offers a high driving position with the handling dynamics of a saloon, and that the ASX is also a viable alternative to C-segment saloon with its very attractive price, eye-catching design and compact footprint.

Autocar ASEAN also noted that the Mitsubishi ASX’s well-built and durable interior is roomy and versatile with numerous storage configurations that expand the 416 litres of boot space to 1,193 litres. Coupled with the ASX’s generous level of standard equipment and safety features, Autocar ASEAN considers it to be one of the best equipped vehicles in its price range.

The ASX is the first Mitsubishi model to be assembled in Malaysia by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM). The stylish yet compact SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre MIVEC engine with an output of 150PS and 197Nm. Two variants are available (2WD and 4WD) and both utilize a smooth INVECS-III CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) with Sports Mode offering six virtual ratios for enhanced driver involvement yet maintaining superb fuel efficiency.

Available as a motoring supplement under the English daily New Straits Times, Cars, Bikes and Trucks is the foremost authority when it comes to weekly automotive news, views and reviews.

In awarding the Mitsubishi ASX the title of Small/Midsize SUV (4×2) of the Year, Editor of Car, Bikes & Trucks and Head Judge Yamin Vong said, “Buying trends plays a pivotal part in the awards this year as market preferences showed that aspects such as drivetrains and body styles were key deciding factors for consumers when purchasing a car. The ASX 4X2 win reveals that buyers are now looking for the functionality and ground clearance of an SUV but without the more expensive all-terrain drivetrain, making it an overall winner.”

The 2WD is priced at RM114,743.50, while the 4WD is priced at RM128,879.50 (on the road without insurance). The ASX is available in four colours; Black Mica, Titanium Gray, Cool Silver and Solid White, and it comes with standard-fitted premium features such as leather seats and an 8-inch touch-screen multimedia head-unit with GPS navigation and reverse camera. The Mitsubishi ASX is also backed by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty complemented by a 2-Year Free Maintenance programme.

On the latest awards won by the ASX, CEO of MMM, Tetsuya Oda said, “We would like to thank Autocar ASEAN and Car, Bikes & Trucks for recognizing the ASX as the best choice in its class. These two prestigious awards are a testament to the Mitsubishi ASX’s attractive overall package and unbeatable value.”

Mitsubishi Motors is represented by 57 showrooms (out of which 43 are 3S Centres) and 47 service outlets serving its customers throughout Malaysia.
