Yes, ‘intotalcontrol’ 2010 model of Honda CR-V Facelift is here and officially launched on 11 March 2010 in Malaysia. A week ago, we head to our local showrooms and review the New Honda CR-V facelift 2010 Malaysia Edition for our readers. The facelifted CR-V added its new redesigned hood, sportier front bumper with fog lights, front grille, rear bumper with lens reflectors and alloy rims. Most importantly, the road noise is reduced compare to previous model.

For interior wise, the CR-V come with new fabric on the seats, a redesigned climate control knob, wider armrest on the front seats, and a new audio head unit with USB interface and in-dash 6 discs.

Technically, there isn’t much changes except added Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and Dual side airbags with OPDS. The CR-V uses the efficient 150PS 2.0L i-VTEC engine (R20A) mated with 5-Speed Automatic Transmission and Real-Time 4WD. This engine first debuted on the JDM Honda Stream follows by new Honda CR-V and Honda Accord 2.0. R20A is a stroked version of the R18A 1.8 litre SOHC i-VTEC engine that was introduced with the new Civic.

You may be wonder, why a ‘SOHC’ engine on CR-V? Nevertheless, the fact that Honda chose a ‘SOHC’ R20A to replace the ‘DOHC’ K20A of the out-going CR-V have raised quite a lot of discussion by many amateur motorists.

For hard-core Honda enthusiasts will of course know well by now that a ‘SOHC’ engine, especially one designed by Honda may not necessarily loose much. In fact, possibly in a direct comparison against a DOHC engine. This is especially true for specific applications, some of which will even favour a SOHC engine over a DOHC. The L-Series Engine that powers the City and Jazz is a very good example.

This time around, we put the facelifted Honda CR-V on the road test to list out our opinions.

Pros:

- Excellent Build Quality

- Reasonably Comfortable for 5 adults on board

- Sharpish Dynamics

- Competitive Pricing compare to other SUVs

Cons:

- Underpowered engine (R20A is a good engine but car response just a bit sluggish with 2.0 engine that constantly powering the 4 wheels)

- The rear looks ugly without wing spoiler.

Here’s the price of the CR-V in Peninsular Malaysia - RM149,980.00 On The Road with Insurance. That’s RM180 more comparing to a Honda Accord 2.0 VTi-L and you get a SUV with real-time 4WD.
