New Volkswagen Golf Public Premiere at the Mondial de l’Automobile

Last week at the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris, everything at the Volkswagen show area revolves around the new Golf. In showing prototypes of the exceptionally fuel-efficient Golf BlueMotion and especially sporty Golf GTI, both almost ready to go into full production, Volkswagen is also providing a first look at some models of the future.

New Volkswagen Golf Public Premiere at the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris

Available across Europe from the autumn, the Golf is being presented to a broad audience for the first time in Paris. With its larger interior (extra legroom in the back and 30 litres more luggage space), new pioneering safety systems such as multi-collision braking fitted as standard and a proactive passenger protection system (PreCrash), plus completely redesigned information and entertainment systems, Volkswagen is aiming to continue the bestseller’s success story. New, fuel-efficient engines like the 140 PS petrol motor with cylinder deactivation and consumption of 4.8 litres per 100 kilometres (121 g/km CO2) use up to 23 per cent less fuel than their predecessors. Optimisation at this level on the new Golf is, however, not the exception, but the rule: the base models consume as petrol versions (TSI) 4.9 l/100 km (equating to 115 g CO2 /km) and as diesels (TDI) just 3.8 l/100 km (99 g CO2 /km).

By showing the near-production concept of the next Golf BlueMotion, Volkswagen is also giving visitors an insight into some sophisticated and yet affordable fuel-saving technologies. The future Golf BlueMotion excels with impressive average fuel consumption of just 3.2 l/100 km, equating to a CO2 value of 85 g CO2/km. It launches as a full production model in the summer of 2013.

Proof that even sporty vehicles can be fuel-efficient is provided by the new Golf GTI concept car. At just 6.0 l/100 km the seventh generation of the sporty classic again sets a new record. The average fuel consumption of the 162 kW / 220 PS Golf GTI has been reduced in comparison to its predecessor by 1.3 litres or 18 per cent.

All-New Volkswagen Golf World Premiere in Berlin

Two days ago, thousands of invited guests experienced the world premiere of the new Volkswagen Golf in Berlin. The new Golf Mk7 is now up to 100kg lighter and 23% more fuel efficient than the Mk6.

Volkswagen Golf Mk 7

“Six generations of the Golf – 1974 to 2012. That represents 38 years of continuous success for the world bestseller with sales totalling 29.13 million cars. It has also made a tremendous economic impact, safeguarding jobs, and has served as an influential measure of technical progress over the epochs,” says Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG. The corporate chief continues: “We want to continue this success story in the seventh generation Golf. Although the new Golf is safer, more comfortable and spacious than the previous model, it is up to 100 kg lighter and – in the case of the new 140 PS petrol engine that features cylinder deactivation and a combined fuel consumption of just 4.8 litre per 100 km – it is up to 23 per cent more fuel efficient.”

Conceptually, the new Golf is based on the Modular Transverse Matrix. The entire car was redesigned from the body, powertrain and the interior. This includes all information and entertainment systems and its many new assistance systems.

Volkswagen developed two entirely new generations of engines for the Golf that offer a power range from 63 kW / 85 PS to 110 kW / 150 PS. All engine versions are equipped with a standard stop/start system and battery regeneration, which contribute towards improved fuel economy. The common rail engine with 77 kW / 105 PS, for example, which can hardly be made out as a diesel, only consumes 3.8 litres of fuel per 100 km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 99 g/km. Once again, the Golf BlueMotion sets the new benchmarks for the model series with CO2 emissions of just 85 g/km and a combined fuel consumption of 3.2 litres of diesel per 100 km.

New Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet Unveiled

A year ago, Volkswagen presented the new Golf Cabriolet at the Geneva International Motor Show. Now, at the same venue, the first GTI Cabriolet in the history of the Golf unveiled!

2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet

The GTI engine crowns the open-top four-seater with 210PS of power of the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol direct-injection engine to the front axle, making it the most powerful Golf Cabriolet ever. GTI does not only mean more power, but also a sportier exterior and interior and precisely tuned running gear. The first Golf GTI Cabriolet models will be delivered just in time for the official arrival of summer.

2012 Volkswagen Golf GTI Cabriolet

This model comes with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed DSG version. At a low 1,700 rpm, the engine develops a maximum torque of 280 Nm, which stays constant up to 5,300 rpm. The Golf GTI Cabriolet accelerates to 100 km/h within 7.3 seconds in both gearbox versions. When the Cabriolet is driven with the roof up, its top speed is 237 km/h (DSG: 235 km/h). This contrasts with a combined fuel consumption of just 7.6 l/100 km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 177 g/km (DSG: 7.7 l/100 km and 180 g/km CO2).

On the exterior, they are the red framing at the top and bottom of the radiator grille with its honeycomb structure and GTI signature, the front GTI bumper with a large air inlet screen and the typical vertically arranged fog lights, a new rear diffuser and chrome tailpipes on the left and right under the rear bumper. Similar to the GTI with a ‘permanent hard top’, this GTI also has dark-red LED rear lights, LED licence plate illumination and side sill extensions. The classic wheels on the GTI are the standard 17-inch ‘Denver’ type alloys with their five prominent openings, fitted with 225/45 tyres. Showing the same styling, but with a machine-polished surface and contrasting black inner surfaces are optional 18-inch alloy wheels for the Golf GTI Cabriolet – known as ‘Detroit’ (tyre size: 225/40).

The interior of the new Cabriolet matches that of the classic GTI (except for a more raked windscreen frame and special rear bench). It also has sport seats upholstered in the classic and timeless tartan fabric (‘Jacky’), and leather seats (‘Vienna’) are available as an option. Integrated in the seats is a lumbar support, which is activated by a lever on the side of the seat. Naturally, this convertible also has pedals with brushed stainless steel caps, and a unique GTI gear shift lever in aluminium look; and of course a leather-trimmed steering wheel with grip recesses and a GTI emblem; and naturally the steering wheel, gear shift cover and leather trim of the parking brake lever have decorative red seams; and the interior lining of the soft top is black as are the trim covers of the roof pillars. Also standard: automatic climate control (Climatronic), chrome surrounds and the RCD 210 radio-CD system.

The fabric top of the Golf Cabriolet, the basic construction of which was already designed for high speeds, was adopted 1:1 for the GTI. It is operated electro-hydraulically and takes just 9.5 seconds to open (and 11 seconds to close). The top may also be operated while driving at speeds of up to 30 km/h. When the top is up, this Volkswagen is one of the quietest convertibles available. The Golf GTI Cabriolet also exhibits top quality and safety attributes. Automatically deploying roll-over protection, front and side head/thorax airbags and a knee airbag on the driver’s side are always standard. Last but not least, the Golf GTI Cabriolet offers the most spacious interior in its class and a fully usable boot (250 litres), even when the top is down.

2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI Launched in Malaysia

2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI - Sepang F1 Circuit

The new top model in the Volkswagen Polo range is easy to recognise as a GTI at first glance – inside and outside. It openly displays the visual insignia of this unique badge. Now, the new 2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI Mark V is officially launched in Malaysia.

2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI - Sepang F1 Circuit

Straight to the point, the new Polo GTI is a powerful small car with 132 kW / 180 PS / 178 hp of max output @ 6,200rpm and 250Nm of max torque @ 4,500rpm. Most importantly, it offers an exceptional fuel efficient at its class. It won’t be mistake that this GTI too lives up to its legendary name with superior handling properties combined with uncompromising engine responsiveness and a maximum of safety.

What makes this car so special? Based on track records, never before has such a powerful Polo come even close to its fuel efficiency.  The engine is downsized to a twin-charged 1.4-litre TSI engine (turbo plus supercharging) and the extremely efficient 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG) as standard equipment, the development team was able to reduce combined fuel consumption to 5.9 l/100 km. That is equivalent to CO2 emissions of just 139 g/km. By comparison: Its direct predecessor in terms of power – also equipped with a 180 PS 1.8-litre turbo engine – consumed 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres (equivalent to 188 g/km CO2). This means that the new car is 25% more fuel efficient.

This economy contrasts with highly dynamic driving performance: The light 1,194kg Volkswagen sports car accelerates to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 229 km/h. This car is compatible with RON95 unleaded fuel as minimum requirement but RON97 unleaded fuel is recommended.

Power is transferred to the front wheels via DSG as standard equipment. An electronic transverse differential lock (XDS) reduces the tendency to understeer and improves handling especially in quick driving through curves. Like all versions of the model series, the Polo GTI also comes equipped with the standard ESP electronic stabilisation programme including Hill Climb Assist. In addition, the car’s extensive safety features consists of a highly effective airbag network, including combined head-thorax side airbags, belt tensioners, belt tension limiters plus belt warning, head restraints designed to avoid whiplash trauma (each in front), three rear head restraints as well as Isofix points on the rear bench seat for suitably fitted child seats.

In addition, convenience features include electro-hydraulic power steering, electric windows in front, central locking, bootspace lighting and tie-down eyes, warning buzzer for light not turned off, driver seat height adjustment, make-up mirror in the sun visors and green tinted insulated glass. The GTI will be the first Polo to be available with bi-xenon headlights with cornering lights, LED daytime running lights and corner marker lights as well as a panoramic tilt/slide sunroof. Naturally, GTI-specific features are always standard too, such as the sport seat system and 17-inch alloy wheels in “Denver” design. This car is fitted with 215/40 R17 tyres.

2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI

Based on the price list from Volkswagen Group Malaysia, the new Polo GTI is selling RM132,888 for the 3-door and RM135,888 for the 5-door excluding registration and inspection fees, road tax, number plate and insurance. The 3-door model is the signature model but I presume the 5-door will be a better selling model in Malaysia.

In conclusion, if you feel the need for speed with limited budget, this car can offer you a good run except for the size of the car which I am temporary still not able to compensate on. Anyway, you can now check out the car at your nearest Volkswagen showroom.

Volkswagen Golf Mk-7 will be reveal in late 2012

golf_7_1

The next generation of Volkswagen Golf Mk-7 will be launching in late 2012. It seems like the Golf Mk-6 having a much shorter life than the Golf Mk-5. The Golf Mk-5 which was 2.3 million units sold and it is expected that the production target for Golf Mk-6 will be 1.6 million units before end of sales. The current generation of Volkswagen Golf Mk-6 very similar to the previous generation, but uses a slightly modified platform of the Golf Mk-5. Looking at the Golf Mk-6, it looks more like a Golf Mk-5 facelift rather than a new model.

It is speculate that the new Golf will be having 11 range of engines, from 1.2-liter TSI engine (86 and 105 HP), followed by 1.4-liter TSI engine (122 and 160 HP), 1.6-liter TDI engine (90 and 105 hp), 2.0-liter TDI engine (140, 170 and 220 HP) and ending with the 2.0-liter TSI engine (220 and 300 HP).
