A new Nissan Serena 2012 on trader’s plate was spotted by one of our readers on the road.  The Nissan Serena was uncovered and cruising on the streets. After inspecting the photos, it is suspected this to be the latest Serena S-Hybrid that was launch in Japan last year August 2012.

To better prove our views on this, we notice that the lower right of the rear door has a badge which looks pretty much like the Pure Drive S-Hybrid model. The Nissan Serena S-Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient variant of Japan’s most popular minivan. The Nissan Serena S-Hybrid is capable to achieve up to 15.2 kms/litre.

2012 Rainforest Challenge was held in Malacca from 1-10 December 2012. There are adventurers coming from 22 nations participate from Venezuela, USA, Austria, Australia, Poland, Russia (Moscow & Vladivostok), Vietnam, China (Hong Kong & Guangzhou), Brunei, Colombia, Bulgaria, Philippines, Thailand, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, India, Singapore. Host country Malaysia was naturally the biggest contingent with participating teams and enthusiasts.

With more than 100 times winching across 12 hills with the 4×4 and crossing a stretch of 12 kilometers in 36 hours. Those were the days of high adventure which needs to be told and retold as thriller in the Twilight Zone.

The Nissan Navara proven in the 2012 Rainforest Challenge as support vehicle. Technically, The Nissan Navaras, supped up as RFC X-Edition accessories (Warn XDC 9500 ARB deluxe winch bar, OME shocks, Safari Snorkel, IPF spotlights, Maxxis tyres & Auto Diff Locks) thus, reinforcing their off- road capabilities, were at the entry and exit of the Twilight Zone assisting in the crucial moments of supplying water and dry rations to the scouts and officials at the Event Headquarters campsite. These rations were then brought in by trekkers who resupplied them to the exhausted adventurers and media members struggling out of the Twilight Zone.

The Nissan Navaras with extended accessories were fully capable in maneuvering out of tricky situations and obstacles like slipping and sliding across rutted terrain, water, muddy stretches and gullies, thus providing the important life-line supplies at the most crucial moments of RFC 2012.

Although I have checked out this car in Tokyo back in end of 2010. Recently, the electric powered Nissan Leaf was awarded the Eco Innovation Award of the Year 2012 under NST Maybank COTY 2012 in Malaysia.

As you aware the Nissan Leaf is not yet available for sale in Malaysia, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has been running their Leaf Ambassador Programme for the last 6 months in Malaysia to build the awareness of electric vehicles and give Malaysians a chance to experience the Leaf in their daily lives for six weeks.

Dato’ Dr Ang Bon Beng, Executive Director of ETCM, said “We are currently running our Leaf Pilot Programme with the objective of promoting eco green mobility. We are confident our programme will create awareness and educate the public on the importance of eco green mobility. We have just completed our first two batches of Leaf Ambassadors and their feedback on the car have been extremely encouraging”.

The Nissan Leaf was not the only Nissan recognised at the Awards. The multipurpose vehicle, Nissan Elgrand was awarded Premium MPV of the Year 2012. This fully-imported premium MPV comes equipped with premium features such as a private theatre entertainment system and an Advanced Around View Monitor parking camera which impressed the panel of judges.

Nissan Navara is chosen and endorsed as the official car for the Rainforest Challenge 2012. This world renowned 4x 4 off-road event will be held from December 1 -10, 2012 in Malacca, Malaysia.

The Rainforest Challenge which celebrates its 15th year anniversary, is a home-grown prestigious event that has received various international recognitions as the world’s most internationally represented 4×4 event. More than 350 participants are expected to be at the event from over 30 countries.

Dato’ Dr. Ang Bon Beng, Executive Director of Edaran Tan Chong Motor said that ETCM is honoured to be chosen to support this international event as this would boost Nissan Navara as the Mother of all trucks and also to assist in the ever-growing Rainforest Challenge.

“I am delighted with the huge role that ETCM has in the Rainforest Challenge 2012 as this would be a great platform to showcase the raw power of this “Mother Trucker” in these challenging trails.”

This event format has also expanded globally, from Europe to Asia a global series is also in the plans.

Luis J.A. Wee, Founder and Event Director of Rainforest Challenge said this event with the collaboration of ETCM is aimed to support the government in promoting the tourism industry.

“I chose Nissan Navara as the official car of this event due to the respect and confidence I have in this vehicle. With maximum torque of 403Nm/2000rpm and Electronically Controlled 4WD System, I believe the Navara will have no problems with the challenging trails in our challenge in Malaysia. I am optimistic that this event in Pantai Klebang, Malacca would break our personal record for the largest 4×4 gathering in Malaysia.”

This event will showcase Navara’s reputation as the “Mother Trucker”. It will have to sustain the entire grueling challenge.
